Many attractions in New York are quite expensive. If you visit the expensive attractions, the Sightseeing DAY Pass will pay for itself quickly.

In addition, the DAY Pass grants free admission to other museums and attractions, as well as many tourist offers. A complete list of all 80+ offers can be found at the provider: New York DAY Pass Attractions.

These attractions are missing

There is hardly an important sight that the New York Sightseeing Pass does not cover. Only two sights are missing from the scope of services:

  • Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met)
  • 9/11 Memorial & Museum
  • SUMMIT One Vanderbuilt

If you absolutely want to visit any of these attractions, you will have to buy individual tickets for them. These attractions are also not included in any other New York Pass.

In some cities, it is common to be able to use public transportation free of charge with a New York Pass. Unfortunately, this is not possible with the New York Sightseeing Pass and is not offered by any other product.

Reservations required

Please note that reservations are required for many attractions. This is especially true for all guided tours. Only in this way you can be sure that you can really participate in a tour.

Once you have purchased the Sightseeing Pass, you should make the necessary reservations. There is a convenient online portal for this at every provider. The booking alone does not activate the Sightseeing Pass. The pass is activated only when you visit the first sight or participate in the first guided tour.

If you have booked a guided tour, you must attend. Otherwise, a participation fee will be charged to your credit card. Only if you participate as scheduled, the guided tour is free of charge for you.

Reservations are required for some museums and attractions:

  • American Museum of Natural History
  • Empire State Building

Before you visit, read the information about Sightseeing Pass so you can make all the necessary reservations.

Notes on the Hop-on/Hop-off Bus

© LanaG / Shutterstock.com

With the New York Sightseeing Pass you can use the hop-on/hop-off buses of the company Big Bus for free for one day. A free ticket must be purchased at the Times Square stop before the first ride.

After that, you can get on and off as often as you like for a day. The buses run daily on two routes through Manhattan. There is a downtown route and an uptown route.

The downtown route with ten stops runs every 15 to 20 minutes (somewhat less frequently in winter). The uptown line with only five stops is served only once an hour.

Information about the stops, travel times and routes: Hop-on/hop-off with Big Bus.

Helicopter flight over Manhattan

With the DAY Pass you get a discounted helicopter flight over Manhattan. The sightseeing flight can be booked as an optional extra. Add the helicopter flight to your shopping cart. This is a helicopter flight with Charm Aviation over Manhattan. The sightseeing flight lasts between 12 and 15 minutes. You will receive a discount of $85 if you book the flight together with your DAY Pass.

The New York DAY Pass is a convenient sightseeing package. With just one booking you get access to numerous sights and museums. You hardly need any additional tickets. Just load the pass on your phone and off you go.

What we like less

The New York Sightseeing Pass is a very good product, but there are some drawbacks that we like less. However, these disadvantages also apply to all other New York Passes:

No public transport

The Sightseeing Pass does not entitle the holder to use public transportation.

A few attractions missing

Some attractions are not included in Sightseeing Pass: Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met), 9/11 Memorial & Museum and SUMMIT One Vanderbuilt. In addition, the base of the Statue of Liberty can not be entered.

Worth it only for expensive attractions

The pass is hardly worth it for cheap services. You need to visit mainly expensive attractions to make the Sightseeing Pass worthwhile.

No Fast Track admission

You will not receive priority admission with the New York Sightseeing Pass. You will have to queue with other visitors at the box office. For some attractions you can reserve a time slot in advance.

Reservations required

For some attractions you need to reserve a time slot ticket. This also applies to guided tours.

Validity is specified in calendar days

The period of validity is expressed in calendar days. Therefore, it is advisable to start the visit in the morning to take full advantage of the time available.

No free cancellation possible

When you buy the Sightseeing Pass on the official website SightseeingPass.com, you must purchase trip cancellation insurance if you want to have the option to cancel the purchase at a later date. The insurance costs 4% in addition to the purchase price of the Sightseeing Pass.

Is the Sightseeing Pass worth it?

Our opinion: Yes, the Sightseeing DAY Pass is worthwhile for many visitors. The pass includes more than 90 attractions and tourist offers. Anyone who does a lot of sightseeing and uses the more expensive offers in particular will have a lot of fun with the New York DAY Pass.

If you stay at least three days, you can save a lot of money with the Sightseeing Pass, as individual tickets are often very expensive. With a validity of 1 to 10 days, the Sightseeing DAY Pass is very flexible. In addition, it is very convenient to be able to simply download the pass to your own cell phone.

One drawback is that the Sightseeing Pass does not provide preferred entry. Only a few attractions and museums allow you to reserve a time slot. Often you have to queue at the box office to pick up your free ticket.
